Visual Arts Scotland Residency 2023

Bothy Project is delighted to announce the open call for its third partnership residency with Visual Arts Scotland. This opportunity offers a Visual Arts Scotland member the chance to spend a week-long residency at Sweeney’s Bothy on the Isle of Eigg.

The residency includes accommodation for seven nights at Sweeney’s Bothy, as well as reasonable travel & accommodation to and from Eigg. VAS will also provide the successful applicant with a £500 artist fee.

There is no expectation on the artist to create a body of work during the residency. The residency’s purpose is to provide time for artists to reflect on their practice and engage with the environment and culture of the island. However, VAS asks that the successful applicant does undertake the following:

  • A VAS Instagram takeover whilst on the Island
  • Documentation of their experience and time in the Bothy (e.g. written blog or vlog)
  • Online talk/discussion to share how the residency has impacted their practice

Artists who have previously been awarded this residency include Jo Pudelko (2021) and Lorna Fraser (2022).

Applicants can work within any discipline of creative practice but must be a VAS member at both time of application and time of residency. For further information on VAS memberships please see the VAS website.

To apply, please visit the VAS website.
