Lyon & Turnbull Graduate Showcase

Andrea Christodoulides, B.A. Painting, Edinburgh College of Art 2017, received the inaugural Lyon and Turnbull Graduate Showcase Award.

Lyon & Turnbull Auctioneers have an established history of supporting Scotland’s art institutions and art practitioners in the form of prizes, awards and sponsorship.

Recognising how important and scarce opportunities are immediately after graduation, we were keen to expand our remit to offer a platform for emerging, early career artists. Specifically, we wanted to provide an opportunity for a graduate to further their practice during the crucial twelve month period after leaving university. Our aim was to design an opportunity; something with impetus, structure and incentive.

In 2017 we launched our new award: the Lyon & Turnbull Graduate Showcase. Each year specialists Charlotte Riordan and Carly Shearer from the painting department at Lyon & Turnbull will select an undergraduate from the Edinburgh College of Art degree show. They will receive a supported residency with Bothy Project enabling them to spend a week in splendid isolation focusing on the continued development of their practice.

The award will culminate the following summer in a profile-raising exhibition of the artist’s work at Lyon & Turnbull’s Edinburgh saleroom during the Modern British & Contemporary Art auction public view, which includes a private viewing for Lyon and Turnbull’s database of collectors.

Lyon & Turnbull are delighted to be supporting the work of the next generation of artistic talent.
