Cairngorms Youth Local Action Group – Rachael Horsburgh 2022

Moray based illustrator Rachael Horsburgh was selected in March for the Cairngorms Youth Action Team‘s residency at Inshriach Bothy.

Rachael proposed to explore the intangible heritage – stories, myths, legends – she found around Inshriach, and over her week, devised and documented a walk filled with the characters, animals and folklore on the Ryvoan Pass walk.

“I created Mine to You, Yours to Me, a series of pieces made from natural materials, such as bark, that contained different stories and folklore. Playing on the idea of “if you know where to look”, I photographed these pieces in locations between Glenmore Visitor Centre and An Lochan Uaine to build a walk which you can take in real life, or experience digitally by clicking on my illustrated map.”

The residency was for an artist aged 18-30 and living within the National Park or  a 50 mile radius, who made work that connected to the people, place, landscape or environment of the Cairngorms. The call out was selected by CYAT, who then spent time with Rachael over the period of her residency introducing her to the area and CYAT’s aims.
