Art Monthly – ‘The Uses of Huts’

“It is supposed to be a rupture from the norm…the residencies are about solitude, not necessarily about isolation.”

We were thrilled to be featured in Art Monthly’s March 2023 issue in the article The Uses of Huts by Greg Thomas. A stay at Inshriach Bothy in January 2023 inspired the writer to unpack Bothy Project’s history and place it beside current questions of landownership. The article surveys bothy culture in Scotland in relation to the international hutting movement and illuminates this bigger picture by discussing the work of past residents Sarah Bernstein, Alec Finlay, Helen McCrorie and Robbie Synge.
