Creative Practitioner Residencies – Contemporary Music Composition

Bothy Project is delighted to trailblaze an open call for five, week-long, solo funded residencies dedicated to contemporary music composition. This set of music residencies is open to those working in all genres of music who are writing original compositions.

The residencies are open to applicants with between three and six years of composing experience, but who have yet to have work performed on a significant scale. You may be starting a new work, developing an ongoing piece, or completing a project. Each residency offers time and space for contemplation, creativity and focus. It is not necessary for your work to engage with the residency location. Applicants must be based in the UK.

Residencies will take place at Sweeney’s Bothy, Isle of Eigg. Dates throughout 2023 are available.

The residencies will give composers the chance to work in Bothy Project’s Sweeney’s Bothy, a simple off-grid building in the unique surroundings of the Isle of Eigg.

Each selected practitioner will receive:

  • One-week residency time at Sweeney’s Bothy
  • A fee of £500
  • Travel allowance of up to £250 (use of public transport is encouraged)
  • Online meeting opportunities with fellow residents
  • Participation in a post-residency online public event with fellow residents

Open call opens: 9 December 2022

Application deadline: 11.59pm, 22 January 2023

Selection panel: February 2023

Residencies: May – Nov 2023

We are grateful to Creative Scotland for their support of these residencies.
