Fieldwork Residency Blogs

Our Fieldwork Residency strand is for researchers, academics and other experts working on environmental and ecological themes, who can benefit from time at the bothies and consider it important to share their research with diverse audiences.

We’re pleased to share two blogs by Fieldwork residents Charlotte Slaymark and Zein Al-Maha Oweis.

In March 2023, climate scientist Charlotte Slaymark piloted a two-week Fieldwork residency whilst writing up the last of her PhD research. Her blog reflects on her experience and the benefits that residencies can offer to STEM subjects. You can read Charlotte’s blog here.

In March 2024, PhD researcher Zein Al-Maha Oweis undertook a week-long Fieldwork Residency as part of Thinking Culture‘s Civic Engagement Residencies. As part of her residency, Zein visited Eigg’s Primary School to share her journey of sight loss and experience of being a guide dog user with the students. You can read about Zein’s experience here.

If you are interested in undertaking or facilitating a Fieldwork Residency as an individual or organisation, please contact to discuss your needs.
