The Bothy, The Hut, and the Wild, Wild Mind: Symposium event

A public symposium in celebration of the completion of Sweeney’s Bothy

To celebrate the completion of Sweeney’s Bothy in March 2014, a one-day symposium held at Heriot Toun in the Scottish Borders invited poets, artists, hutters, and creative directors to discuss the past, present, and future of bothies, huts, and rural artist residencies in Scotland.

A small crowd with broad interests gathered to share in the conversation. Guest speakers included Colin Greenslade (director, RSA), Ninian Stuart (Centre for Stewardship, Falkland / 1000 Huts Campaign), Gerry Loose (Carbeth Hutting Community), Rachel Hunt (PhD, Scottish out-dwellings), The Bothy Project, Alec Finlay, Kirsty Law (folk singer), and Neville Rae (CABN).

I go to my hut not to get away from it all, but to get away to it all. (Ninian Stuart)

Thanks to Mary Morrison, Pat & Andy Law, and Richard Ashrowan.
