I spent time interrogating what had prompted me to apply for the residency. I had been seduced by the mythology of misty Scotland, which is not the Scotland I recognise! I read writers who challenge these misty impressions of the country – Lorna Moon, George Bruce & Nan Shepherd’s less famous books.

During the week I rediscovered how fun it is to light a fire, how dependent I am to electricity, how much water long hair needs to get clean, how wild my imagination runs at night, how much I like to be outdoors and most importantly, how nice people are. Thanks!
